The calorie counts for the recipes are wrong. And they are ridiculously wrong. Anyone with even the rudimentary understanding of math should be able to see this.Consider the recipe for Rice with Meat. If you add up the weight of all of the ingredients, the total is about 1500 grams. And if you add up the caloric values for all of the ingredients, you get about 1800.Now even if you assume that all 600 grams (1 ml of water weighs 1 gram), of the water evaporates–which is absolutely incorrect because most of it will be absorbed by the rice-then you still have 1800 calories in a mixture that weighs 900 grams. That works out to be about 200 calories per 100 grams. The books states that the calories for 100 grams is 400. That's completely wrong. The real number is probably about 150 calories per 100 grams of food.I would guess that the author doesn't understand that 'ounce' can be a volume ('fluid ounce') or a weight measurement. When you measure something using a 1/2 cup scoop, that's a volume measurement and doesn't equal 100 grams unless what you're measuring is water or a water-type liquid.And, honesty, if someone doesn't understand this basic distinction, they have no place telling anyone how to prepare healthy, nutritionally sound recipes for dogs.So if you're using this book, ignore the calorie counts, at least the 100 grams ones.
